X-51a set to take flight today

The Air Force is busy these days. First it was the top secret X-37b spy platform now its the X-51a hypersonic flyer. The flight was supposed to launch yesterday but was delayed. Another attempt is scheduled for today.

UPDATE (May 27, 2010) – The X-51a flew yesterday and it’s engines ran for 200 seconds pushing it to Mach 5. The 200 seconds is a new duration record for a scramjet but the Mach 5 falls far behind the Mach 9.8 NASA’s X-43a reached in it’s short 12 second burn. Read more here
