Phoenix Launch looks good for Saturday Morning

Tomorrow morning the latest in Mars faring spacecraft will launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Phoenix lander will make a landing attempt on the red planet in the Martian Arctic. I will have my name on the lander (along with thousands of others) and the idea of having my name on the Martian surface is a bit of a thrill.

Launch
Aug. 4
Attempts: 5:26 and 6:02 a.m.

All events are Eastern Daylight Time

…and ever wondered what some of the events during the countdown are? Here is a great breakdown of all the events of a Delta II launch.

UPDATE: A Successful Launch! Phoenix is on its way to Mars. I’m looking forward to the landing in May 2008.
