GOES-N Successfully Launched

At 6:11 pm EDT a Boeing Delta IV successfully launched the GOES-N earth monitoring satellite into orbit. The GOES-N reached its geosynchronous orbit of approximately 22,300 miles. This was the first successful launch after the failure to place two university payloads into orbit in December 2004. The vehicle experienced a fuel sensor glitch that left the payload 10,000 miles short of the correct orbit.
