During the Farnborough air show the new Russian-European manned spacecraft was revealed. The new ship, designed to replace the Soyuz capsule, took 2 years to design and could be used for lunar missions. One unique aspect of this craft is thrusters and landing gear to soften the landing of the capsule back on earth. The Europeans are planning to design the command module and the Russian will design the launch vehicle.

Ares is a family of launch vehicles; if anything, this new capsule would be an “Orion rival.”
